David C. Hedgepeth, Sr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

David C. Hedgepeth, Sr. 90 years old, passed away on November 4, 2016. He was born in Whitakers NC, migrated to Philadelphia, PA and ended up residing in Levittown, PA for 61 years. His late parents were Mary Lyons (Hedgepeth) Clemons and Clifton Hedgepeth of Rocky Mount NC. Deceased siblings are: Olivia Ricks and Roberta Hedgepeth of Baltimore MD; James and Robert Lee Hedgepeth of Philadelphia, PA and Leola Battle of NC. He is survived by Jeremiah Hedgepeth of Rocky Mount NC and Anna May Edmonds of Baltimore, MD. His marriage to the late Maude Lee Long, resulted in 9 children. His children and their spouses are; Bonnie and Elwood Edwards of Morrisville, PA; David and Donzella Hedgepeth of Willingboro, NJ; Burnettas and Franklyn Scriven of Waverly, GA; Margaret Williams of Detroit, MI; Helen and James Averett of Sicklerville, NJ; Alphaues and Patricia Hedgepeth of Lathrup Village, MI; Theresa Spears of Williamstown, NJ; Michael and Tonga Hedgepeth of Palmdale, CA as well as Bermard Hedgepeth of Lancaster, CA. He leaves behind 16 grandchildren (Preceded by Elwood Edwards Jr.) and 18 great grandchildren. We was gifted with a beautiful voice that he shared with others through out his life. He traveled and made gospel recordings with his group, Minor Four. David wrote the song, "What Kind of Man is This. As a church musician he played the piano, guitar and harmonica by ear. A traditional Thanksgiving Day for him, included hunting with his best friend and his beloved beagles. His love for fishing was passed down to his children. David was a WW2 Veteran of the Navy. He retired as a mason from Union Pavement and was also the former President of the Lineage Family Reunion. David was a selfless giver and donor to the Red Cross. David was also known as "The Watermelon Man," as he hustled to sell watermelons to provide a secondary income. His sense of humor and infectious laugh was appreciated by the residents and staff at the Silver Lake Nursing Facility, his last home and place of passing. When he maneuvered his wheelchair through the halls, he would imitate the sounds of an old Model T horn. He loved God. He loved his children. He loved his church family, The House of Prayer in Philadelphia. Services are private per his request and have been entrusted to Molden Funeral Chapel & Cremation Service.
