Ethel A. Flatch
August 1, 1915 - July 26, 2018
Ethel A. Flatch of Bristol, PA passed away peacefully with family at her side, July 26, 2018, at her daughter's home in Mt. Laurel, NJ. She was 102. Born in Connellsville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Forgach and Anna Hrapchak. She was the wife of the late Joseph F. Flatch, married 66 years. She is survived by her brother Richard Forgach of Sanford, NC. Deceased in addition to her parents and husband are: one daughter, Joanne, three sisters, Mary Forgach, Margaret Scherff, Catherine Skoloda, and two brothers, Steven and Andrew Forgach. Before marriage Ethel worked as a healthcare aide in Connellsville Hospital and during World War II she worked as a machine operator in General Motors plant in Trenton, NJ. Ethel, a homemaker, volunteered as a counselor for the St Mark Junior and Juniorettes troops. She also volunteered for the Meals on Wheels program and received a commendation for assisting a senior shut in by calling 911. She was a member of the St. Mark's BVM Sodality and the Catholic Daughters of America, Court 1097. She took pride in embroidering and sewing baptismal stoles for infants and adults for both St. Mark's and St. Anne's parishes for over 30 years as part of her committee work. She held memberships in the Golden Marks Senior Citizen group and the Wood Street Senior Center. Baking, especially treats from her Slovak culture, and card playing were her favorite hobbies. She was always willing to share them with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. She was the type of grandmother that no place was too far to travel to be with her grandchildren. She traveled to New York, Colorado, Utah, Texas, Maryland, and Delaware. Her beautiful smile lit up a room when she entered. Her positive personality, unconditional love, and ongoing patience made her the perfect mother. The mottos she lived by were: "You get more bees with honey" and "Do your best and let God do the rest". She is survived by three daughters: Mary Ann Buonanno (Gerard) of Florence, NJ, Lorraine Gilch (George) of Barrington, NJ, and Jane Brennan (Thomas) of Mt. Laurel, NJ, eight grandchildren: Jeannette and Jim Buonanno, Kevin McDonald (Courtney), Beth Greskovich (Bill), Jim Gilch (Sonja), Michael Brennan (Michelle), and Tom Brennan. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
