Henry E. Blum Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Henry Emil Blum, Jr. Henry Emil Blum, Jr. passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at his home in Wallingford, PA. He was 95. Born in Gilberton, PA he was a 55 year resident of the Rockdale Section of Bristol Twp., PA before moving to Wallingford in 2009. He was a graduate of Gilberton HS class of 1939 and served in the Pacific theatre during WWII with the United States Marine Corps 2nd Parachute Battalion. In November 1943, Corporal Blum was part of a group of 40-50 marines trapped by an enemy ambush on Choiseul in the Solomon Islands before being rescued by a U.S. Navy patrol let by Lt. John F. Kennedy. After his military service, Mr. Blum married Dorothy Jenis of Shenandoah, PA and started a family. He worked as a laborer and miner in Schuylkill County until the family moved to Bristol Twp. in 1953. Mr. Blum worked in construction, including the building of the Walt Whitman Bridge. He then worked at US Steel Fairless Works as a carpenter in the open hearth until his retirement. He also worked a second job for several years driving limousines for Salem Transportation in New Jersey, mostly shuttling military personnel to and from Ft Dix and McGuire AFB. Mr. Blum enjoyed “organic gardening” long before it was trendy and was a skilled baker and cook. He was an avid reader and loved the English language. Spelling was a special passion of his. He was preceded in death by his wife of of 70 years Dorothy M. (Jenis) Blum, son Thomas Henry Blum, grandson Thomas Henry Blum, Jr., sister Eleanor Whitecavage and brothers Leonard Blum and Edmund “Jack” Blum and his parents Henry and Mary (Swank) Blum. He is survived by 4 sons, Gerald B. Blum, of Reno, NV, H. Stephen Blum, of Alexandria, VA, W. Barry Blum (Dr. Lori P. Blum), of Miami, FL, and Gene Blum (Susan Kennedy) of Warminster, PA, 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, a sister Joan McCarthy, of Frackville, PA, and brother, Ronald Blum, of Mahanoy City, PA. Family and friends are invited to attend his viewings on Friday, Jan. 13th from 7-9pm and Saturday, Jan. 14th from 8:30-9:30am at the Molden Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service 133 Otter St. Bristol, PA. A funeral Mass will follow on Saturday 10am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 601 Bristol Pike Croydon, PA with interment in Forest Hills Cemetery.
